Self-expressive Breathwork
Inspired by the Holotropic Breathwork approach, I appreciate the value of conscious breathing and its healing effect. In my practice, I use a derived form of Holotropic Breathwork, which I call Self-expressive Breathwork. This approach is a bit gentler than Holotropic Breathwork and by deep and slow breathing, it facilitates (in a group or individual setting) the organismic self-regulation of ourselves.
Processes can emerge in which tensions and energy blockages can be resolved. A safe space and evocative music help the breather to go deep into the experience. There, impulses towards self-expression begin to surface and are encouraged to be released.
The client’s capacity for handling psychological and physical processes determines the pace and intensity level. In this way, Self-expressive Breathwork provides an opportunity for unconscious material to arise without judgment. My role is to facilitate and support the client‘s process and to guarantee a safe experience.
In my private practice, Self-expressive Breathwork has also shown encouraging results with people diagnosed with Affective Disorders. In many cases, it has worked well as an additional therapy because of its tension releasing, self-supportive and grounding effect.
If you like to gain more awareness and connection with yourself through a non-cognitive approach, I’d like to encourage you to try a session of Self-Expressive Breathwork at my practice.
Self-expressive Breathwork can also be an effective tool for personal development. If you are interested in the wisdom of your body, you are welcome to contact me for a one-to-one lesson. I offer occasional respiratory-self-awareness in the form of weekend workshops for at small groups.
Please note that one session takes about 2.5 hours and contains three parts: 1. Introduction 2. Breathwork. 3. Creative Integration
A preliminary talk (online or at my practice) is necessary. Please contact me for more information, if you are interested.
